Ten Year Anniversary Report to the Community

Please join us as we commemorate the agency's work creating and expanding affordable housing and meeting St. Louis' critical housing needs of the past decade. 

2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Universal Design 

Speakers from the Starkloff Disability Institute will discuss the upcoming Universal Design Summit V and advances in universal housing design and sustainable developments that are creating affordable communities that are useable by all. Architect Gina Hilberry, principal, Cohen Hilberry Architects, will discuss the Affordable Housing Commission’s basic requirements for new construction housing developments.

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Foreclosure Prevention

Members of the St. Louis Alliance for Homeownership Preservation, a collaborative of agencies selected by Mayor Slay to combat the City’s foreclosure problem, will be on hand to discuss the Commission’s efforts to reduce home foreclosures and mitigate their devastating impact on St. Louis families. Chris Krehmeyer of Beyond Housing will provide an update on new legislation that promotes mediation for home owners and mortgage lenders. In addition representatives from Catholic Charities, the Urban League, Better Family Life and MORE, Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment, will be on hand as well.

3:30 – 4:30 Spotlight on Affordable Housing Developments

Three developers will discuss unique features of innovative housing developments funded by the Affordable Housing Commission.   Participating developers are Habitat for Humanity-St. Louis, Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance (RHCDA), and McCormack Baron Salazar, Inc.

3:30 – 4:30 Homeless Services Initiatives

A panel of representatives will discuss three homeless services programs.  Gateway 180 will discuss its rapid re-housing program that moves people from shelters to transitional or permanent housing in approximately 30 days. The Director of the City Department of Human Services will discuss the City’s efforts to eliminate chronic homelessness, and a representative of the St. Patrick Center will discuss unique homeless training programs and the agency’s progress in establishing its first permanent housing facility for low income residents.

4:30 – 5:30  Welcoming Remarks & Reception with Mayor Slay

Join us for a brief repast with Mayor Slay as he talks about AHC’s progress, goals and challenges. Commission Chairman Derrick Thomas will also greet participants and share reflections. Space is limited so please RSVP.

Evening Program

5:45 Executive Director Report, Program Introduction, and Film

The evening program begins with a statistical overview of the number of individuals and households served, homes built and future projections. This portion of the program includes a film and presentations by a local developer and housing provider.  
“Lessons Learned in Public Housing Design” will be shared by Cheryl Lovell, the Executive Director of the St. Louis Housing Authority. Then Paul McKee of McEagle Development Corporation will discuss revitalization plans for the old Pruitt-Igoe site. Q&A if time permits.
