Today, the Sierra Club released a new report showcasing ten U.S. cities that have made ambitious commitments to be powered with 100 percent clean, renewable energy like wind and solar. St. Louis was featured for being the largest city in the Midwest to adopt a 100% clean energy goal.
“The 100% Clean Energy Advisory Board has been working diligently to create a plan to address these issues and meet our goals. I could not be more proud and excited to be a part of these efforts,” said Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed.
In September 2017, the City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen unanimously passed a resolution agreeing to commit to the transition of 100 percent clean energy in the form of wind and solar and energy efficiency measures within the electricity sector by 2035.
“St. Louis is leading the Midwest in clean energy policy, which is critical to reducing our dependence on dirty, expensive, fossil fuels,” said Andy Knott, Senior Campaign Representative with the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign in Missouri and 100% Clean Energy Advisory Board member.
More than 75 U.S. cities have now committed to transition to 100 percent clean energy.
“Now more than ever, cities need to step up and make a strong statement to the current administration. Climate change is not ‘fake news’ and the City of St. Louis is ready to make a serious change,” said Reed.
