Former Alderwoman Kacie Starr Triplett

Biography

With a commitment to her community and to her beloved City, Kacie Starr Triplett, has emerged as one of Saint Louis' youngest and brightest leaders. Elected at the age of 26 to the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, Kacie was sworn in as one the youngest elected leaders in the history of Saint Louis in April of 2007. As a life-long resident of the 6th Ward, Kacie has devoted her entire career to public service and improving her communities.

Alderman Triplett's work and dedication has attracted national attention and recognition. She's been featured in ALIVE Magazine's as one of St. Louis' local residents with the most "buzz" and in Ebony Magazine as a Young Leader Under 30. Alderman Triplett has also represented the United States during a bi-partisan delegation to East Asia where she studied the government and history of Vietnam. In 2008, the Riverfront Times named Triplett the Best Local Politician in the region.

During the presidential primary, she served as the local spokesperson for the Barack Obama campaign – playing an important role in his historic victory, and later serving as a delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. In 2008, after the November election, Triplett introduced legislation honorably designating a St. Louis street after President Barack Obama. Committed to improving our neighborhoods and the Saint Louis community, Triplett is an active participant in the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, where she sits on the Board of Directors, and serves as a member on the St. Louis Downtown Partnership and the Water Tower Preservation Board. She is a proud member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in the 6th Ward and lives in the same neighborhood in which she spent her childhood.

Triplett regularly takes time out from her schedule to speak to community groups and young people throughout the city. Focusing on inclusion, access, and education, Triplett has provided motivational addresses and led discussions on topics that underscore the importance of voter education, community involvement and the contributions of youth to their local community. Triplett received her secondary education in the 6th Ward and is a graduate of St. Elizabeth Academy. She previously served as the District Affairs Coordinator for Congressman Russ Carnahan and prior to that, served as the Community Outreach Coordinator for former Minority Leader, Dick Gephardt, in Washington, D.C. and in St. Louis.

In 2005, Mayor Slay appointed Triplett to the Affordable Housing Commission, where she served as the youngest Commissioner in the history of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. As a Commissioner, Triplett was responsible for overseeing a $5.5 million budget for the advancement of affordable housing in St. Louis City. Triplett has worked passionately for political inclusiveness on all levels and is a former fellow with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and a Faculty Affiliate for the Sue Shear Institute.

Triplett holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Hampton University and a Master's degree in International Relations from Webster University.
