CREA's Role in the 2020 Census

Information on 2020 census outreach efforts

I want to give you an update on activities related to the 20202 Census in the City of St. Louis.  Madisen Janssen from Mayor Krewson’s office is overseeing the Mayor’s 2020 Census Clear Count Committee. Charles Bryson, Director of the Civil Rights Enforcement Agency (CREA) is assisting the effort. 

This update will be given every week, at least until April 20th. 

To clarify, people may have begun to receive their Census ID information, allowing them to go ahead and fill out the online census form. 

Census Outreach Efforts

  1. The Mayor's Office has created a Google page that allows people and agencies to post information on their events, such as ward/neighborhood or community meetings, neighborhood events, etc.

  3. Senator Blunt and Congressman Clay’s office are assisting with outreach and education to the community
  4. David Newburger, Director of City Office of the Disabled, will be sending census information to all persons who have disabled street parking permits, as well as service providers to the disabled community.
  5. We have requested the License Collector's office assist with a mailing to some of the 1,300 businesses in the City. Businesses will be sent census related posters and asked they are located in a prominent place.
  6. Posters have been sent to several human service non-profit agencies.This includes North Side Housing, North Newstead Association and Northside Youth and Senior Service Center. Thomas Dunn has already scheduled information sessions and training at their facility.
  7. The City Recreation Division will be putting up Census posters at their eight facilities. 
  8. St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) is working with agencies they contract with to provide information at congregate sites and through meals on wheels programs.
  9. The St. Louis Public Library is posting information on the census, as well as recruiting days for people to be hired to be enumerators
  10. The Immigrant Service Provider Network (ISPN) is working with immigrant and refugee serving agencies and organizations in their network to promote the census and recruit enumerators.
  11. The Civil Rights Enforcement Agency (CREA) will be sending census information to landlords and property managers over this week requesting they share the information with their tenants
  12. St. Louis Association of Community Organizations (SLACO) has agreed to assist with outreach efforts to the 30+ neighborhood association in their organization.
  13. CREA will reach out to all committee persons by the end of this week.

Census Employment Outreach

The St. Louis Census Office is hosting an Open House and Recruiting Blitz on Tuesday, February11, 20202 from 1 to 3 at 4300 Goodfellow Blvd, Building 103, Suite 201. 

U. S. Congressman Lacy Clay is sponsoring a census recruitment and hiring  fair on Saturday February 15, 2020  at the Harris Stowe State University William Clay Center, 10 North Compton,  from 1 to 3pm
