The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Winter Storm Warning...Which is in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening.(442 AM CST Wed Feb 20 2013) 

What is a Winter Storm Warning? 

A winter storm warning is issued when hazardous winter weather in the form of heavy snow, freezing rain or sleet is imminent or occurring. Warnings are usually issued 12-24 hours before the event is expected to begin. 

When? 

All day Thursday, 02/21/13(Snow and sleet in the morning, followed by freezing rain the rest of the day ending with freezing drizzle) 

How much snow/ice/rain are we going to get?  

Snow and Sleet with accumulation potential of 1 to 6 inches along with light accumulation of ice 

What will the conditions be like outside?  

Windy, heavy snow, sleet and ice accumulations will have significant impacts on travel. Ice may cause damage to trees and power lines. 

Dangers to Health: 

  • Falls on icy surfaces
  • Carbon monoxide from using alternative heat source 
  • Hypothermia 
  • Frostbite

 What you can do:

 Be prepared!

Residents within the warning area should begin preparing. Make sure your vehicle is winterized (fuel and wiper fluid). Make sure you (and your family) have what you need at home just in case such as: flashlights, warm clothing, food / water, a way to get information (TV, radio, phone with internet access, internet), medicine / first aid kit

Check with local news and radio stations regularly for updates on the conditions.
