Robert Taylor of the 2100 block of Keokuk Street today has been charged with felony and misdemeanor animal abuse for killing one dog and injuring another.
The defendant is accused of striking a four-pound beige Chihuahua dog multiple times in the animal’s head and face, which led to its death, on April 15, 2015. Taylor admitted to causing the death of the animal. Taylor also admitted to striking a black Chihuahua dog in the face with the metal end of a leash, causing a laceration.
“This sort of violence toward animals will not be tolerated in the City of St. Louis,” says Diedra Weaver, the Program Manager of City of St. Louis Animal Care and Control who has been involved in this case. “It is important that the community remember that people who are violent toward animals are more likely to be violent towards other people.”
Mayor Slay’s Animal Cruelty Task Force was established approximately two years ago to coordinate the efforts of the Department of Health, Stray Rescue, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and the Circuit Attorney's Office. Since the formation of the Task Force, approximately 200 animal-related citations have been issued in the City of St. Louis.
