Carriage Horse Rides To Discontinue During Extreme Heat
Predicted temperatures and heat index values may exceed levels to which no horse may be used to draw a carriage for hire in the City of St. Louis.

Continued extremely hot temperatures are expected today. The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures to reach 101 degrees Fahrenheit with the possibility of a heat index value of 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
The City of St. Louis Department of Health is issuing this reminder that pursuant to Health Commissioner’s Order # 1003 (June 18, 2015) no horse may be used to draw a carriage for hire in the City of St. Louis when the National Weather Service determines that the actual air temperature at Lambert International Airport is 96 degrees Fahrenheit or above, or the heat index at Lambert International Airport is 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above.
If the temperature or heat index value reaches the predicted levels carriage horse operators will be expected to comply with the Health Commissioner’s Order and return horses to their stables. City of St. Louis Department of Health Animal Care Officers will be monitoring the streets to ensure carriage operations are inactive.
