Volunteers provide minor home repairs and household chores for senior citizens (60 years of age or older) living in their own home in the City of St. Louis.

Overview

The SLAAA Minor Home Repair and Chore Program includes both contracted and volunteer services.  

Contracted Services

The contracted service program includes repairing heating and cooling systems in the home, basic plumbing and electrical work, minor home repairs to both the interior and exterior of the home, and basic home modifications to include ramps, handrails, grab bars, etc.

Chore Program

Volunteer provide minor home repairs and household chores for senior citizens (60 years of age or older) living in their own home in the City of St. Louis.  

More than four hundred volunteers from several youth programs participate in the program. Adults supervise all youth groups. SLAAA, the volunteer groups, and/or the homeowner provide the supplies and materials for the projects. Projects include yard work, painting, gutter cleaning, window cleaning, minor carpentry, etc.

 

Instructions

  1. To participate in the program seniors need to provide:
    • proof of home ownership, or
    • a current paid real estate property tax receipt.

Fees

For contracted services, clients may have to bear some cost depending on the work involved.

There is no cost for the chore program, but donations are accepted.

 

What to Expect

When you call, the SLAAA representative will put you in touch with a referring agency, which will help you schedule the work.
