What
The St. Louis City Continuum of Care (CoC) is preparing for the 2016 Point in Time (PIT) and needs about 300 volunteers to survey persons experiencing homelessness either on the street or in sheltered facilities. The PIT Count is a federally mandated survey to determine the prevalence and characteristics of persons experiencing homelessness in the City of St. Louis. PIT helps the City's CoC better understand who is facing homelessness on a given night so that it can advocate for additional resources to provide services for the homeless population, ultimately working to end homelessness in our community.

Why
- To fully understand homelessness in our region through data collection, and what it will take to help connect the most vulnerable people to appropriate services and to secure housing;
- To better allocate funding services and measure outcomes related to homelessness;
- To meet our reporting obligations to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Data from the PIT helps drive millions of dollars in federal funding to local service providers;and,
