St. Louis City and County Continuum of Care is gearing up for the 2018 Point in Time (PIT) on Thursday, January 25 and is looking for volunteers. Volunteers are needed from 4:00 am to 8:00 am to survey persons experiencing homelessness either on the street or in sheltered facilities and for the Project Homeless Connect Resource Fair that will take place immediately after the count from 9:00 am to 12 pm.

The PIT Count is a federally mandated count and survey to determine the prevalence and characteristics of persons experiencing homelessness in the City of St. Louis.  “The Point-in-Time Count helps us better understand who is facing homelessness on a given night so that we can advocate for additional resources to provide housing and support services to help St. Louisans end their struggles with homelessness,” said Irene Agustin, Director of Human Services for the City of St. Louis.

PIT Count volunteers will meet at 4:00 am on Thursday, January 25 at Places for People - 4130 Lindell Blvd in the Central West End. Teams will go out into neighborhoods surveying individuals or families who are experiencing homelessness.  Immediately following the PIT Count, the St. Louis City Continuum of Care will host Project Homeless Connect at Biddle Housing Opportunities Center – 1212 E. 13th Street. This event will offer individuals experiencing homelessness immediate access to needed resources, including hygiene supplies, health screenings, benefits applications, and employment and housing services.
