Winter shelter and outreach operations are in effect for the City of St. Louis on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Additional cots are being made available tonight in anticipationof the very cold winter weather for sheltering and support of our homeless neighbors.

Exposure to cold can cause frostbite or hypothermia and can become life threatening. A wind chill of -20° F with light winds will cause frostbite in just 30 minutes. Hypothermia is a condition brought on when the body temperature drops to less than 95°F, and it can kill.

If you see an individual who is struggling with the cold temperatures, please call 911 to receive immediate medical attention.

For further assistance please call United Way 211 or 911.

Individuals or families who may need shelter should go to Market St. and 13 th St., from 5-7pm. There will be St. Louis Metro Warming Buses there, providing relief from the cold for those awaiting shuttle service to overflow shelters.

Tonight St. Louis Winter Outreach volunteers, Department of Human Services staff, the St. Louis Metro Police and St. Louis EMS will patrol for individuals needing to be transported to the Winter Operations shelters.

This effort will provide additional outreach to engage and attempt to move people to indoor shelter.

It is imperative that if anyone is seen in need of medical attention that 9-1-1 be called immediately on their behalf.
