Winter shelter and outreach operations are in effect for the City of St. Louis on January 10, 2019.

If inclement weather persists, winter shelter and operations may be extended to include Friday and Saturday nights as well.

Exposure to cold can cause frostbite or hypothermia and can become life threatening. A wind chill of -20° F with light winds will cause frostbite in just 30 minutes.

Hyperthermia is a condition brought on when the body temperature drops to less than 95°F, and it can kill.  If you see an individual who is struggling with the cold temperatures, please call 911 to receive immediate medical attention.

Individuals or families who may need shelter should go the shuttle pick up location at Market St and 13th Street.

There will be a Metro Warming Bus there, providing relief from the cold while awaiting shuttle service to open overflow shelters from 5-7pm at the shuttle location.

Individuals or families seeking shelter should please contact the following agencies:

  • Call St. Louis Housing Helpline: (314) 802-5444
  • Call United Way: 211

Staff and volunteers from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, St. Patrick Center, Peter & Paul Community Services, Gateway 180, BJC Behavioral, Places for People, St. Louis City Continuum of Care, St. Louis County Continuum of Care, St. Louis Housing Helpline - United Way 211, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, St. Louis Winter Outreach Shelters, St. Louis Winter Outreach Teams, Transformation Christian Church and VA Street Outreach are working together to ensure that individuals and families experiencing homelessness are safe and out of the dangerous elements this winter.
