Summer is fast approaching and is an exciting time for children to relax, enjoy playtime and friends. However, for children that receive free and reduced priced meals at school, summer can mean hunger.

The City of St. Louis is looking for members of our community to help us in our efforts to let no child go hungry this summer, by opening up a "Schools Out Café" summer feeding site during the weeks of June 3, 2019 through August 9, 2019.

A food site can select to operate for one week or for the entire summer. You will be serving free meals that meet federal nutrition guidelines. Already prepared breakfast and lunch meals are delivered to each of the sites under the City's sponsorship.

Any neighborhood group, church, vacation bible school, youth program, block unit, food pantry, or concerned group of residents can become a summer feeding site. A feeding site can be indoors or outdoors, in a fellowship hall or in a parking lot. There are no income requirements or daily meal registrations needed in order for children to eat.

If you are interested in becoming a "Schools Out Café" summer food service site, please complete and sign the attached form. Return the completed application by April 12th to the Dept. of Human Services, Youth and Family Services, 1520 Market, Room 4065, St. Louis, MO 63103, if you would like to start meal service on June 3, 2019 or after. We can also accept applications throughout the summer.

The Dept. of Human Services provides training to all summer food service sites and no prior experience is required in order to participate as a site. All it takes is YOU, a phone call to the City of St. Louis Dept. of Human Services, Youth and Family Services Office at (314) 657-1654 or an email to MartinK@stlouis-mo.gov to learn more about becoming a sponsored feeding site.

The City of St. Louis Department of Human Services, serves as a sponsor for the USDA funded Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
