Mayor Lyda Krewson announced today that the City of St. Louis Summer Food Service Program, School’s Out Café, will provide free breakfast and lunch, to groups that have agreed to offer meals to youth this summer.

“Even though our schools close for the summer, hunger does not take a break and we need to support families and ensure that no kids go hungry,” Mayor Krewson said.

Free meals are available to young people ages one through 18, and are being served throughout St. Louis City, as well as some St. Louis County locations.

“The City is proud to have played an important role for more than 45 years in ensuring that young people receive nutritious meals during the summer months. I encourage every parent to take advantage of this resource for their children and I am appealing to other organizations to contact us about opening a site of their own to serve meals,” Krewson said.

The 2018 School’s Out Café will operate Monday through Friday and at several locations on the weekend, between June 4 and August 10. Free meal locations include children and youth programs, day care centers, churches, recreation centers, public park programs, YMCA’s and many other locations.

The City does not combat hunger alone during the summer. St. Louis Public Schools will serve youth at various summer school locations, Operation Food Search and other groups have meal site locations throughout the area: TEXT: 877877 and enter the word FOOD to search for meal sites by zip code.

The Summer Food Service Program is an equal opportunity, federally funded program administered through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. No child shall be discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
