Overview
Hotel / Motel businesses require multiple business licenses.
Please read the following sections for more information, and be sure to follow each step in order.

Instructions
Step 1: Obtain State Sales Tax Number

Step 2: Complete GBL form and visit our office
Visit the License Collector’s office in Room 104 of City Hall in person. For your convenience, you may download the Graduated Business License application and fill it out in advance.
A. 3.5% Room Sales Tax - paid on a monthly basis on gross room sales of transient guests.
B. 3.75% Convention & Tourism Tax - paid on a quarterly basis on gross room sales of transient guests.

Step 3: Obtain Statement of Clearance
In addition to visiting the License Collector’s office, you will also need to obtain a clearance from the Collector of Revenue’s office at the location below:

Step 4: Obtain Occupancy Permit
You must also obtain an Occupancy Permit from the Building Division at the location below:

Step 5: Obtain Annual Permit
You must receive an annual permit. This permit will be forwarded to you by the building division once you have applied and been issued an occupancy permit. Your premises will be inspected each year by the Board of Public Service and you must present evidence of a current permit before you may review your annual license with us.

What to Expect
Once all clearances and payments are received, you will be able to obtain your license to do business in the City of St. Louis.
Additional Information
- Any liquor sold, see Liquor License.
- Any restaurants, in-house catering, room service, see Restaurant. Each restaurant needs to file separately.
- Any lounge or area used for dancing, see Dance Hall.
- Any gift shops or souvenirs, see Gift Shops
- Any parking lot, garage, or are a for customers only, see Parking Lot or Garages.
If you pay by check, the license application may be held for several working days until the check clears.
A separate Graduated Business License is required for each business location or trade name (St. Louis City Ordinance 52030).
