City Sustainability Plan draft available for public review
The City of St. Louis Sustainability Plan is now available on the City's website as a Draft
for Public Review. The City's Sustainability Plan was developed with the help of a team
of experienced consultants over an 18-month period that included both public outreach
and community engagement activities.
"This Plan represents a great deal of thought and effort on the part of hundreds of
individuals interested in making the City a more sustainable place to live, work, and play.
Nearly 1200 individuals responded to the community sustainability survey to tell us what
their vision is of a sustainable City of St. Louis," said Catherine Werner, the City's
Sustainability Director. "Over the past 18 months, we combined community and
departmental input with cutting edge sustainability ideas to craft a triple bottom line
sustainability framework that is uniquely tailored to the City of St. Louis. This is a
watershed moment for sustainability in the City of St. Louis."
To help summarize andshare aspects of the 260 page documents, the City will conduct
"Sustainability Plan :: inform" during the Fall of 2012. During that time, the City's
Sustainability Director will give several presentations and there will be a public hearing
held by the Planning Commission on November 7, 2012, at 1520 Market Street at 5:30
p.m. Written comments will be accepted on the City's Sustainability Plan through
November 14th onthe Sustainability Plan Comment Form. Once the Planning
Commission adopts the Sustainability Plan, it will become an official City document.
"We are already working hard to advance sustainability in the City, but having a
Sustainability Plan will enable us to work collectively with our many partners to be as
effective and progressive in the field as possible," said Mayor Slay. "This Plan will help
focus the conversation on sustainability, and is designed to support our goals to improve
overall quality of life, and make the City a more desirable place for now and the future."
When the Plan is adopted, Mayor Slay will also provide a suggested Action Agenda for
implementing priorities of the City's Sustainability Plan in partnership with the
community. Further information about presentations relating to the Draft Plan is posted
on the City's Sustainability Website.
