ST. LOUIS, MO – Mayor Lyda Krewson will accept the 2017 Outstanding Local Government Achievement (OLGA) Award for Exemplary Public/Private or Public/Non-Profit Collaboration from the East-West Gateway Council of Governments on Friday, November 17. The award ceremony will take place at a luncheon during EWG’s Annual Meeting.
The OLGA Award honors innovative government programs that significantly contribute to the public sector. The City of St. Louis is receiving this award in recognition of the City Energy Project, a collaborative effort with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT).
The City Energy Project promotes energy efficiency, protects public health, and reduces buildings’ impact on climate change. The Project will benchmark municipal, institutional, commercial, and multifamily residential buildings whose square footage is equal to or greater than 50,000 and will track and report their energy and water usage annually to the City’s Building Division.
The Building Division will use that information to tailor plans for individual properties with the goal of reducing energy usage and consumption.
An advisory group consisting of stakeholders from local nonprofits, utilities, and City agencies will meet on a bi-monthly basis to help review the City’s progress and offer suggestions on how to improve implementation.
