ST. LOUIS – Winter shelter and outreach operations have been in effect for the City of St. Louis since December 24, 2017.

The freezing temperatures are expected to last through Saturday. The Winter Shelter and Outreach Operation is a highly coordinated effort amongst area nonprofits, volunteer groups and various departments within the City of St. Louis.

All involved are working around the clock to ensure that unsheltered homeless men, women, and children are safe and out of the dangerously cold temperatures.

Individuals or families seeking shelter should please contact the following agencies:

  • St. Louis Housing Helpline: (314) 802-5444
  • United Way: 211
  • Biddle Housing Opportunities Center: (314) 612-1675 1313 N. Tucker St., St. Louis, MO 63101

Exposure to cold can cause frostbite or hypothermia and become life threatening. A wind chill of -20° Fahrenheit (F) with light winds will cause frostbite in just 30 minutes. Hyperthermia is a condition brought on when the body temperature drops to less than 95°F, and it can be fatal. If you see an individual who is struggling with the cold temperatures, please call 911 to help them get immediate medical attention.

Staff and volunteers from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, St. Patrick Center, Peter & Paul Community Services, Gateway 180, BJC Behavioral, Places for People, St. Louis City Continuum of Care, St. Louis County Continuum of Care, St. Louis Housing Helpline - United Way 211, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, St. Louis Winter Outreach Shelters, St. Louis Winter Outreach Teams, Transformation Christian Church, VA Street Outreach and many other churches and volunteer groups are working together to ensure that individuals and families experiencing homelessness are safe this winter.

The agencies and volunteer groups that are collaborating with the City of St. Louis need your donations and support.

Please reach out to these agencies if you would like to volunteer or to give a donation. For questions, please contact Edwin Muhammad at (314) 657-1718 or muhammade@stlouis-mo.gov.
