Mayor Lyda Krewson Appoints Jacob Long as Director of Communications

Mayor Lyda Krewson announced today that she has appointed Jacob Long to serve as her Director of Communications, effective Monday, October 21.

“I am thrilled to have someone of Jacob’s caliber join our team. His energy, professional experience, and enthusiasm for St. Louis make him a terrific addition,” Mayor Krewson said. “I believe he will be a trusted and accessible source of information for the public and press.”

As the Mayor’s Director of Communications, Long will serve as the official spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office. He will also engage other City departments on communication initiatives and work to expand the City’s use of social media for sharing important information.

“I love St. Louis and am honored to have the opportunity to serve in the Mayor’s Office. I believe great government and policy requires first-class communication. I intend to highlight all the work being done to move this great city forward and improve the lives of all its residents,” Long said.

Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office, Long was an investigative reporter at KSDK in St. Louis, focusing on crime, courts, and watchdog journalism. He was previously a general assignment news reporter and anchor in Boston, St. Louis, Jacksonville, Fla., and Peoria, Ill. 

His reporting has made national headlines and has been recognized with several industry honors and accolades, including two Emmy awards. 

Long is a Granite City, Ill. native and holds a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Illinois State University, where he minored in Women’s and Gender Studies. He and his husband, Claude, are the proud parents of a miniature golden retriever named Tucker. They live in Benton Park.
