ST. LOUIS -- Following the election results of Proposition 1, City of St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay issued the following statement:

"Proposition 1 will help propel St. Louis forward and capitalize on our momentum by investing in the people and places of our City.

"Tuesday's vote shows that our residents support a holistic approach to urban revitalization and solutions to racial inequity, joblessness, crime and blight. Proposition 1 will allow St. Louis to expand its MetroLink to better connect residents with jobs, amenities, opportunities, healthcare, and educational facilities. Light rail's full economic development potential will be harnessed by a strategy that includes innovative approaches to neighborhood and workforce development, as well as investments in public safety and infrastructure.

"I am very proud to be your Mayor. I am even prouder to leave Lyda Krewson tremendous tools to continue the momentum of the City of St. Louis."

Mayor Slay also offered the following statement on Proposition 2:

"I first want to thank the SC STL ownership group that formed a formidable front to entice a Major League Soccer team to St. Louis. They have been from the beginning very bullish on the strengths of our City and committed to investing $255 million of their own money not only in a new stadium and new team, but also in the people of St. Louis through a Community Benefits Agreement. I share their disappointment;however, I hope that this is not the end of conversations about how St. Louis becomes a MLS city."
