Mayor Slay Welcomes HUD Secretary Julian Castro to St. Louis
City of St. Louis is a Choice Neighborhoods Grant Finalist. Near North Side Neighborhoods Eligible for $30M in Improvements.

WHAT:
Mayor Francis Slay will welcome U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro to the City of St. Louis tomorrow morning.
In October, Secretary Castro named the City a final contender to receive a $30 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant, which if awarded, would help transform the Near North Side. The City first applied for a Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant in August 2014.
Since then, HUD administrators conducted a site visit to see the proposed Near North Side Choice Neighborhood Initiative (http://www.nearnorthsidestl.com/) development plan that focuses on health, education, public safety, social services, job training, entrepreneurship, housing and neighborhood enhancements for the Near North Side. HUD officials toured Preservation Square, Old North, the future home of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), and sections of the proposed North/South MetroLink alignment.
