Employee and Dependent Life Insurance is offered through The Standard Insurance Company.

Overview

Standard Insurance Company (The Standard) is the City of St. Louis’ provider for Life, Additional Life, Dependent Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage. Basic, Additional Life and Dependent Life insurance can protect the people you care about if you’re no longer here to provide for them. They can use the payout to help pay expenses like funeral and medical costs, or housing, college tuition and child care. Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance can help protect your family’s finances if death or a serious accident keeps you from providing for them.

City Employees Life Insurance Plans

Basic Employee Life Insurance

One time Basic Annual compensation is paid by employer at no cost to the employee. Maximum amount of $250,000.

Optional Employee and Dependent Life Insurance

For Employees

One, two, three, four, or five times salary rounded to the highest $1,000.  Maximum amount of $500,000.

Voluntary AD&D

AD&D Insurance may be purchased in increments of $25,000 up to a maximum of $250,000 (or 10 times base annual earnings). The AD&D Insurance coverage is available at an employee only or employee and dependent(s) level. Please see the table below for rate information:

Police Division Life Insurance Plans

Employee Life Insurance

One times Basic Annual compensation plus an additional $3,000 is paid by employer at no cost to the employee. Maximum amount of $250,000.

First Responder Line of Duty Benefit

First responders including Police Officers, Firefighters, and EMS employees are eligible for an additional $50,000 (or an additional 100% of their elected coverage, whichever is less) of the AD&D insurance benefit.

Making Life Insurance Policy Changes

City of St. Louis and Police Division employees may make changes to their life insurance policy during Open Enrollment. To make a beneficiary change, increase or decrease the amount of coverage, or to add or drop a policy, a consolidated enrollment form will need to be completed and returned to The City of Saint Louis Employee Benefits Section.
