Position Specifications
Incumbents in this position are responsible for securing information and evidence, classifying, analyzing and comparing records and assisting with the maintenance of relevant files. Duties include fingerprinting conscious, unconscious and deceased subjects to establish identity; photographing subjects; transmitting fingerprints to other law enforcement agencies; chemically processing and logging items for evidence and attending pre-trial conferences and testifying in court as to prisoner identifications and evidence processing results. In order to be considered for this position applicants must be available to work all shifts which include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application. Shift differential of 1% is paid for evening, night and weekend shifts.
Minimum Qualifications
An Associate’s degree in Physical or Forensic Science. OR one year of experience receiving, collecting, or processing forensic evidence for analysis. OR one year of experience working with fingerprint classification and identification. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certification: Must successfully complete AFIS Certification by the Missouri Highway Patrol within 24 months of date of hire. Must also become certified to use REJIS and MULES criminal history files and arrest records by completion of the working test period.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" and "DNA buccal swab" as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
Some positions may require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment.
