Position Specifications
Incumbents in this position maintain and repair Water Division production and distribution systems, equipment and grounds for the purposes of maintaining the City’s water distribution system. Duties include: cutting, caulking and replacing pipes; excavating; operating pumps, trucks, tractors, and mowers; pavement breaking; pouring concrete; replacing asphalt and cleaning water settling basins. Positions require shift, weekend and holiday assignments, mandatory overtime and 24-hour emergency call. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application. Shift differential of 1% is paid for evening, night and weekend shifts.

Minimum Qualifications
Some experience in outdoor maintenance and/or grounds work.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must present license upon request. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Some positions may require incumbents to obtain a valid Class B CDL as a condition of successfully completing their working test period.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in water or sewer line construction. Skill in the use of engine driven pumps, power saws, jack hammers, air compressors and related construction equipment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
