Sustainable Land Lab update -- Sunflower + Project
The Sunflower + Project, featured here, is one of five projects aimed at rethinking vacant land in St. Louis as part of the inaugural Sustainable Land Lab, a partnership between Washington University and the City of St. Louis. The Land Lab has been strongly supported by the a number of key city departments, including the Mayor's Office, the St. Louis Development Corporation and the Planning Department. University involvement includes the Office of Sustainability, the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, the Brown School of Social Work and Olin Business School. The Sunflower+ Project is one of five winners of the inaugural Land Lab competition. The project, led by Don Koster, senior lecturer in the Sam Fox School, is using sunflowers to remediate the soil in a vacant lot in Old North St. Louis.
