Summary
Basic Computer (Parts I & II)
Part I: Learn basic computer terminology, identify the parts of a computer and keyboard keys (spacebar/enter/shift/caps lock/delete/backspace/navigation keys/period), and practice using a mouse.
Prerequisite: none
Part 2: Learn to power up, log on the computer, identify keys (control/alt/delete), and explore the desktop, desktop icons, start button and menus, practice opening programs. Learn program's task bar/tool bar/title bar functions, control buttons (minimize/maximize/close/undo/redo), scroll bar. Learn about Internet Explorer and web browsing.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer, Part 1
Mousing Skills
Advance your computer proficiency by further developing your mousing technique through a variety of exercises and games.
Prerequisite: none
Intermediate Computer
Learn about removable media (CDs, flash drives), the best ways to locate/open/save documents, review and practice with standard online job application, email messages used in job search, and techniques such as highlighting text, right mouse click options, control buttons (copy/cut/paste), spell check.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer, Part 1 &2; or working knowledge of topics covered in those courses.
*A Basic Computer skills assessment is required.
Intro to the Internet (Email/Online Search)
Learn how to set up an email account specifically for a job search, open/send/reply to email messages and attach a document. Learn how to access web sites, identify and review job titles, conduct job searches using key words, use the back button and refresh the screen.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer, Part 1 &2 and Intermediate Computer; or working knowledge of the topics in those courses.
*A Basic/Intermediate Computer skills assessment is required.
