Drivers Encouraged to Report Potholes for Repair

As the weather begins to warm after a very cold winter, asphalt is beginning to break open under the stress of the freeze/thaw cycle, coupled with moisture seeping into cracked patches of roadway.

"This is a common but pesky occurrence that we see every Spring across the Midwest," Mayor Francis Slay said. "We have up to 10 crews out working daily, weather permitting, to fill every pothole they come across, but drivers also can help by letting us know if they find one along our 1,100 miles of streets."

Help maintenance crews by slowing down and giving them room to work, and also, by reporting the potholes you discover while driving. Drivers are encouraged to call or tweet the Citizens' Service Bureau at 314-622-4800 or @stlcsb to report a pothole. People may also fill out a request for service online. 

The Department of Streets aims to fill reported potholes on major streets within two days, weather permitting. Patched potholes do not hold if the ground is wet, so crews will take advantage of the mild weather predicted over the next few days to patch as many potholes as possible.
