Bill Siedhoff, Director of the Department of Human Services will serve as the chair of the Government Division of the 2011 United Way Annual Campaign that began with a kick-off event on September 7th. Included in the Government Division are some 70,000 employees from the federal, state, city, county, municipalities and other entities such as the St. Louis Zoo and the St. Louis Historical Society.

This year's campaign is being chaired by Danny Ludeman, President & CEO of Wells Fargo Advisors, who has set a very ambitious goal of $71 million. The Government Division has established a goal of $863,623, an increase of 1% over last year.

Siedhoff stated, "Our poor economy continues to take a terrible toll on people across this country and the St. Louis region is no exception resulting in increased demand for basic services such as housing, food and utility assistance. Now, more than ever, those of us in a position to help, need to step forward to help meet these needs."

More than a million people are assisted through the United Way annually through sponsored organizations such as Grace Hill Settlement House, the St. Louis Crisis Nursery and the Family Support Network. Additionally, the United Way in a variety of ways is a major partner of the City of St. Louis particularly in times of emergencies such as we recently experienced with excessive heat, tornados and devastating flooding in north city.

To reach $71 million, everyone's help is desperately needed and just by increasing gifts by a dollar or two, the goal can be met. All of those receiving help will greatly benefit from your generosity as will our community.

Many thanks!
