David Sykora, Executive Director of the St. Louis Area on Aging (SLAAA), reports that SLAAA has been in contact with the Area Agency on Aging Director in Joplin.  While their agency office escaped damage, they did have wind and water damage to their downtown senior center.  Several of the senior housing complexes were significantly damaged besides the Greenbriar Nursing Home that was destroyed. Several of the staff have completely lost everything and have had family members fatally injured.  Many seniors in Joplin have lost everything.  There is an opportunity to help seniors pay for meds, toiletries, utility bills, etc.

The Missouri Association of Area Agencies on Aging has launched "Join With Joplin," a program designed to raise funds to assist seniors displaced or injured in the recent Joplin tornado.  Individuals and organizations interested in contributing funds may make checks payable to:  MA4 - Join With Joplin and sent to:

All contributions will be distributed directly to seniors in need under the auspices of the Missouri Area Agencies on Aging.  Funds will be used for food, housing, medical care and for the provision of everyday living items. Any contribution you can make will be appreciated.
