Moving Towards Better Employee Health
Recap of the 2011 Employee Health Fair
This article is 13 years old. It was published on December 1, 2011.
Nutrition Services was very busy throughout the fair sharing information about good nutrition and demonstrating recipes. The recipes provided for taste-testing were courtesy of community partner Cooking Matters, an agency that empowers families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals. Those recipes included a Fruit Yogurt Dip and a Southwestern Black-eyed Pea and Corn Salad. The Southwestern Black-eyed Pea salad was given rave reviews by most taste testers. Participating employees also got the chance to win some great prizes after correctly answering nutrition questions.
Physical fitness is also a key component of good health. This health fair also allowed Nutrition Services to engage employees in Let's Move STL, the City's effort to incorporate First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move initiative. Nutrition Services provided information on physical activity and Let's Move STL incentive items, too.
About 125 people visited the Nutrition Services table. This provided an excellent opportunity to spread accurate information about nutrition and physical activity. Hopefully, employees will begin to make the positive changes in those areas that will prolong and improve their lives. Thank you to all who participated; we look forward to seeing you again next year!
