National Public Health Week 2014
Stop by info tables at City Hall and 1520 Market Street this week
This article is 10 years old. It was published on April 7, 2014.
During the first full week of April each year, the American Public Health Association brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week (NPHW). This is a time to recognize the contributions of public health, and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation. This year, NPHW begins on Monday April 7th and the theme is: "Public Health: Start Here."
During NPHW, each day of the week has a different health- or safety-related focus; we will do different activities throughout the week to address each day's focus. Every day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. we will host a table in City Hall and at 1520 Market Street with informational materials and incentives. Our planned schedule of activity is as follows:
Monday, April 7th, the theme is "Be Healthy from the Start." Nurses from the Bureau of Woman, Children and Adolescent Health will provide information about their services and best practices.
Tuesday, April 8th, the theme is "Don't Panic." Individuals trained in disaster preparedness will be on hand to make sure you know what to do in the event of a disaster.
Wednesday, April 9th, the theme is "Get Out Ahead." Food inspectors and animal control officers will be discussing the importance of food safety and proper pet care.
Thursday, April 10th, the theme is "Eat Healthy. "Registered dietitians will provide healthy lifestyle information, healthy snacks, and fun giveaways.
Friday, April 11th, the theme is "Be the Healthiest Nation in One Generation." Public health professionals from a variety of disciplines will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about public health and provide informational materials.
Public health has truly made life more enjoyable for everyone by improving the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and so much more. Come and celebrate all the accomplishments with us this week in the lobby in 1520 Market Street or in the City Hall Rotunda.
