End of Session Legislative Update

Board of Aldermen 2018-2019 Session

Due to the Board of Aldermen rules during an election year, we are now on Spring Break. The Board of Aldermen will return for Sine Die (last meeting of the session) on Monday, April 15. The 2019-2020 Board of Aldermen session will begin on Tuesday, April 16 with the swearing in of the newly elected officials from the even-numbered wards and the President of the Board of Aldermen. 

As a reminder, Wednesday, Feb. 6 is the last day to register for the March 5th Election. To learn more about the upcoming March 5th election and to register to vote, visit here

This session, we have passed more than 200 laws. I wanted to provide you with a few highlights of the session:

Board Bill 6FS
The bill is known as the City of St. Louis Whistleblower Law, which pertains to reporting improper governmental action and providing protections from retaliatory action for reporting and cooperating in the investigation and/or prosecution of improper governmental action.  

Board Bill 109
This Ordinance creates a disconnected youth taskforce to study the obstacles to education and employment to disconnected youth in the City of St. Louis. It requires the task force to compile a report of their findings and recommendations to be submitted to the Mayor and a Board of Aldermen standing committee. 


Board Bill 72
An ordinance revising The Transparency in Government Law to require the effective closed captioning of all public meetings of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, including committee meetings; the Board of Estimate & Apportionment; and the Preservation Board. 

Board Bill 69
An ordinance making an appropriation of $17,271,901.81 recommended by the Parking Commission for payment including $1,370,418.91 for Capital Improvements and $10,000,000 for General Revenue Reserves. 

Board Bill 54CS
An Ordinance adopting the 2018 International Residential Building Codes for one and two family Dwellings.
