Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed has authorized the use of the Board of Aldermen Chambers for the first meeting of the Board of Freeholders on Monday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. Following the acceptance of the final appointment to the Board of Freeholders by the St. Louis County Council, the Board of Freeholders will have a quorum of their members to begin their business.

In addition, Reed has invited all members of the Board of Aldermen to join him in attending the Board of Freeholders first convening meeting to express their desires for the process and expected outcomes.  “Until the City’s appointees are approved, the elected representatives for the 300,000 residents in the City of St. Louis must make sure our voices are heard and included,” said Reed.

Reed is hopeful that the discussions on the mayoral nominations will continue and a resolution will be met soon.

“The Board of Aldermen has been working diligently to ensure that the best interests of the residents of the City are fairly represented by the Board of Freeholders. To meet the wishes of the 20,000 County and City residents who started this process, I am authorizing the use of the Chambers for the Board of Freeholders process to begin. I will continue to work to find a resolution on the City’s appointees,” said Reed.

According to Section 30(b) of the Missouri Constitution, the first meeting of the Board of Freeholders is to be held in the Board of Aldermen Chambers in City Hall at 10 a.m., the second Monday following the 30-day deadline.

The meeting is open to the public.
