Board of Aldermen Returns from Spring Recess

The Board of Aldermen returns from spring recess this upcoming Monday, April 15. Monday will is the last day of the 2018-2019 session. It is referred to as Sine Die. On Tuesday, April 16, the new session begins and the newly elected and re-elected aldermen and alderwomen will be sworn in. No board bills will be introduced on the first day of the new session.

On Tuesday, the Board of Aldermen will begin the new session and officially adopt the Rules of the Board of Aldermen. New this year, the Board of Aldermen has added a standing committee called the Education & Youth Matters Committee.

In addition, the Board of Aldermen has made changes to Section VII, Rule 31. The rule relates to the admission to the floor of the Chambers. The new rule states that only members of the media with valid professional credentials, honored guests or elected officials will be allowed on the floor of the Board of Aldermen. An honored guest is defined as only immediate family members and/or spouses of the members of the Board of Aldermen and individuals or groups being honored by the Board of Aldermen by Courtesy Resolution.  

In addition, the gallery will still remain open to the public that have a valid Gallery Pass for the viewing of the meeting. Guest Passes will be made available to the Aldermen and additional passes may be issued by the President. Overflow space will be available in the Kennedy Room for viewing.  These rules are the same as the U.S. House of Representatives and will go into effect on Friday, April 26.
