Obtain a Tax Waiver (Statement of Non-Assessment)

Residents with no personal property tax assessed in the prior year can obtain a statement of non-assessment (tax-waiver)

Overview

A statement of non-assessment is issued to a resident when no personal property tax was assessed for the prior year. This certificate is issued by the City Assessor in lieu of a paid personal property tax receipt when registering a vehicle or renewing license plates.

A Tax Waiver can normally only be obtained in person at the Assessor's Office. In light of the COVID-19 emergency, the Assessor's Office has implemented a procedure to request it online.

Preparation

  1. Confirm you qualify for a tax waiver. A person qualifies for a tax waiver when:
    1. They are a new resident to the State of Missouri
