ST. LOUIS – Today, the St. Louis City Board of Elections is announcing expanded opportunities for City residents to vote in the upcoming General Election. On Election Day, November 8, St. Louisans will be able to cast a ballot at their usual polling location or any of 12 Vote Centers across the city. Beginning October 25, Voters can utilize 4 No-Excuse Absentee Centers to cast their ballot in advance of Election Day.
“Voting is the primary way for residents and neighborhoods to express their will. Participation in the process ensures that your voice is heard,” say Ben Borgmeyer and Gary Stoff, Directors at the Election Board.
Through funding from the American Rescue Plan allocated last year, the Election Board has upgraded its voting infrastructure. As a result, voting is more accessible than ever for City voters. On November 8, City voters now have the option of either voting at his or her assigned precinct or stopping by one of the Election Board’s designated 12 Vote Centers to cast their ballot.
In the two-week period prior to Election Day beginning October 25th, voters can now vote a “no-excuse” absentee ballot at any of the Election Board’s designated No Excuse Absentee Polling Places.
To explore voting options, find the closest polling place on Election Day or locate a No Excuse Absentee Polling Place prior to Election Day voters should access the Polling Places page on the Election Board website.
While the Election Board and the City are working together to make voting as accessible as possible, it is important to remember there are new rules regarding photo ID requirements to vote. Accepted photo IDs to vote include a non-expired Missouri driver or nondriver license; a non-expired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card; a non-expired United States passport. Make sure your name on the ID matches your name on the voting rolls. The Missouri Department of Revenue offers residents one free nondriver's license ID through its DMVs. Learn more about how to obtain a nondriver’s license ID as well as documents necessary at https://www.sos.mo.gov/voterid or by calling 573-526-VOTE (8683).
If a voter does NOT have a State of Missouri or Federally issued photo ID, they can still vote at the voter’s polling place by casting a provisional ballot on Election Day. After Election Day, a bipartisan team of election judges will compare the signature on the voter’s provisional ballot envelope to their voter registration signature on file at the Election Board. If the signature matches, the vote will count.
