(ST. LOUIS—July 26, 2019) Women in Public Finance (WPF) is honoring St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green with its 2019 Founders' Award for Lifetime Achievement. WPF will formally present the award at the organization’s 23rd annual conference, held Sept. 26 in Austin, Texas.
“To be in public service and represent the taxpayers is a true labor of love,” said Comptroller Green. “I am honored to be recognized by Women in Public Finance for my work on behalf of the people of St. Louis.”
The lifetime recognition honors a woman involved in the field for more than 10 years who has consistently demonstrated skill, drive, integrity and vision.
“Comptroller Green has been a strong fiscal steward for the citizens of St. Louis for more than 23 years,” reads her nominating statement. “Comptroller Green has also been a strong supporter of women and minorities in public finance throughout her tenure as Comptroller.”
Comptroller Green believes promoting the growth of the next generation of public finance professionals is an important part of the calling.
“Public finance is an excellent field for those who want to use their analytical skills to help their community and build a rewarding career,” Comptroller Green said. “I encourage anyone with these interests—especially young women—to explore a career in public finance.”
Comptroller Green has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting and finance roles. She has served as the city’s comptroller since 1995 and in 1997 was the first woman and third African American elected to the position. She has served alongside four mayoral administrations.
