(ST. LOUIS – September 27, 2017) The bill introduced this week by Alderwoman Cara Spencer, Board Bill 130, is a common-sense solution for financing the renovations of Scottrade Center.
This is the right approach for Scottrade Center and the City of St. Louis. By levying a small fee on ticket sales that are then set aside in a fund for facility construction and improvements, the plan does not draw upon the city’s general fund or risk harming the city’s credit.
I am confident this bill can serve as a model for future sports and entertainment development projects in St. Louis.
Introducing the bill is just the first step towards implementing this solution. It will require the agreement of the Kiel Center Partners as well as the political will of the Board of Aldermen and other city officials.
This is our time to blaze a new path, and I am ready to help in any way I can. Let us work together, each of us bringing our good will and good intent, and work together as a team. We have been down, but we have the home-ice advantage; let’s take it and bring home a win that will make Blues fans and the people of St. Louis proud.
