(St. Louis – March 3, 2021) Applicants are being interviewed for 72 vacant Corrections jobs, thanks to a discovery by Comptroller Darlene Green.
Following the February 6 incident at the St. Louis City Justice Center (CJC), Comptroller Green was presented with a contract for security services to compensate for staff vacancies. During her review of the contract and working with Personnel Director Richard Frank, she discovered that there was a backlog of more than 100 applicants for the 72 vacant positions. Working together, she and Director Frank facilitated the resumption of interviews for the full-time open positions in compliance with civil service regulations and ensured the outside contract for temporary services was made compliant with city personnel policies.
“Filling these permanent jobs will provide stable employment for our citizens and help our Corrections team deliver a secure and humane environment for detainees,” said Comptroller Green. “I am grateful that working together we were able to support the Department of Corrections’ immediate needs for additional staff while also securing a long-term pipeline of talent for these permanent positions.”
The pandemic has interrupted employment for many St. Louis citizens—include those with experience in security services.
Interviews for the positions have begun, and applications remain open on the city’s website at stlouis-mo.gov/jobs.
Comptroller Darlene Green is the chief fiscal officer of the City of St. Louis and is charged with safeguarding the city’s credit rating and with protecting taxpayer dollars.
