(St. Louis – August 13, 2021) Comptroller Darlene Green extends her gratitude to all who made donations at the August 11, 2021 American Red Cross community blood drive at St. Louis City Hall.
“With the help of our donors and volunteers, we collected 20 units of blood on Wednesday at St. Louis City Hall. Their generosity and dedication to helping others is inspiring and it is saving lives,” said Comptroller Green.
The Comptroller’s Office holds two blood drives each year at City Hall, in February and August. Over the years, these drives have recruited a total of 510 donors and collected 430 units of blood.
Right now, the American Red Cross has a critical need for eligible blood donors, and there's an ongoing need for African American blood donors for sickle cell therapies. Children with Sickle Cell Disease often receive blood transfusions on an ongoing basis, making it more important for them to receive the best match for their bodies.
“If you were not able to attend our drive, I encourage you to take this opportunity and schedule an appointment for another blood drive in our community,” said Comptroller Green.
For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.
