That includes warrants that had been issued for failing to settle payment obligations to the Court. On July 1, 2015,Mayor Francis Slay asked the Court to retroactively lift all 56,000 warrants stemming from a failure to pay and extend a 30-day grace period to come to the Court to schedule a new payment date or to get on a payment plan. The City also sends reminder letters to people who fail to pay their fines.
Over the past 30 days, 641 people, representing 1,196 cases have gotten their warrants canceled and new court dates set for free simply by showing up to the Municipal Court.
"The City's municipal judges will help you get on the right side of the law. They won't send you to jail just because you can't afford to pay. Instead, they may offer you a payment plan or community service," Mayor Francis Slay said. "Working side by side with police officers to give back to your community is a win for everyone."
The St. Louis City Municipal Court is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1520 Market Street (enter off of 16th Street). An individual may choose to pay off his/her assessed fine any day at the Court, or instead, he/she can receive a new court date to arrange payment.
No money is required to schedule a new court date through Friday, July 31, 2015. However, if a defendant misses that reassigned court date, he/she will go back into warrant and would have to post bond to secure a third new court date.
