Mayor Lyda Krewson and Public Safety Director Judge Jimmie Edwards today released the following statement upon receiving the Corrections Task Force's report:
“This afternoon, the Corrections Task Force presented us with their report on the City Justice Center (CJC). We will immediately begin to review the information and recommendations—some of which we believe are already in the process of being implemented.
On behalf of the City of St. Louis, we'd like to thank members of the Corrections Task Force and members of the Administration, including Corrections Commissioner Dale Glass and his entire team, for their professionalism and time and attention to this important matter over the past few weeks.
Our shared priority continues to be the health and safety of our Corrections employees and the detainees who the Courts have placed into our custody, in addition to the safety, security, and integrity of our correctional facilities like CJC.”
Mayor Krewson announced the formation of the Corrections Task Force in early February to thoroughly, urgently, and independently review current conditions and operations at the City's Justice Center and assessing any complaints or concerns.
