Today, Mayor Tishaura O. Jones announces the appointment of Adam Cisroe Pearson, OTD, OTR/L, as Director of the Department of Human Services (DHS) for the City of St. Louis. Pearson will officially assume his new role beginning May 30, 2023.

“Adam has been a strong advocate for housing equity and policies that reverse housing instability throughout our region,” said Mayor Tishaura O. Jones. “I look forward to working with him to continue our efforts to support our unhoused neighbors, seniors, veterans, and other vulnerable populations served by DHS.”

Pearson is a St. Louis native who has worked in human services in various leadership capacities since he completed his Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy in 2011 from Washington University in St. Louis. As Chief Operating Officer at homeless service provider Peter & Paul Community Services, Pearson managed a division of over 70 team members across six programs, providing housing and supportive services around the clock in various locations around the City of St. Louis, including city-owned Biddle House Opportunities Center.

“I am grateful to Mayor Jones for the opportunity to lead the Department of Human Services as they work to improve the quality of life of our community members,” said Adam Pearson. “I look forward to implementing this administration’s policies to lift up our unhoused neighbors, seniors, and more."

Pearson succeeds Dr. Yusef Scoggin, who recently accepted a position as CEO of Covenant House Missouri. Deputy DHS Director Valerie Russell will serve as Acting Director until Pearson assumes his role.
