Beginning at midnight tonight, shoppers in the City of St. Louis can make tax-free purchases on several items this weekend. Between August 2-4, City businesses will participate in the Missouri Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday.

“This weekend will give City residents and visitors a chance to keep a little extra cash in their pockets while outfitting their families with back to school clothes and supplies,” said Mayor Francis Slay. “The savings for shoppers at businesses in the City will add up to more than 8 percent.”

The following items can be purchased tax free during the three-day holiday:

  • School supplies
  • Personal computers
  • Clothing, including shoes (less than $100 value)
Internet orders are also tax-free during this period if the purchase of the qualifying items occur during the sales tax holiday and the transaction is completed during the holiday. Delivery can occur after the holiday if the purchaser pays in full during the sales tax holiday.
