Residency Requirement


The Charter of the City of St. Louis requires persons employed on a full time basis by the City to reside in the City. Persons may apply for employment with the City regardless of their residency.

Persons who do not reside in the City of St. Louis at the time of application must take up residence in the City within 120 days of completion of their initial working test (probationary) period.

Applicants who do not reside in the City of St. Louis and are not willing to move into the City will not be considered.

City employees must maintain their residence in the City or forfeit their employment.

The City of St. Louis does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status or retaliation. 

Smoke Free Air Act

Pursuant to Ordinance 68481, the City of St. Louis prohibits smoking in all enclosed facilities within places of employment.
