Bi-Weekly Pay Rate $1,590.00
Public Safety Dispatcher (Trainees) shall receive the bi-weekly Trainee rate of $1,590.00 and serve in a working test (probationary) period. Upon completion of their working test period and being granted permanent status, Public Safety Dispatcher (Trainees) shall receive a title change to Public Safety Dispatcher I and the bi-weekly rate of $1,689. Upon successful completion of all of the training requirements for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher II, incumbents shall receive a title change from Public Safety Dispatcher I to Public Safety Dispatcher II and the bi-weekly rate of $1,808. Upon successful completion of all the training requirements for Public Safety Dispatcher III, incumbents shall receive a title change from Public Safety Dispatcher II to Public Safety Dispatcher III and the bi-weekly rate of $1,941 bi-weekly. A shift differential of 1% is paid for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
This position does not require City Residency.
Position Specifications
This is the entry-level dispatcher position within the City of St. Louis Department of Public Safety. Incumbents work as call takers and receive Police, Fire, EMS emergency and non-emergency calls from residents, generate the appropriate service request(s), and/or redirect the calls to other dispatch personnel for appropriate follow-up and response. Positions require shift, weekend, holiday and mandatory overtime assignments. Applicants must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability section of the Employment Application.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate and basic computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 25 words per minute.
Certification: As part of the character investigation, applicants must meet the minimum screening requirements for certification to access the REJIS and MULES Criminal Justice Information Systems within 60 days of appointment. Incumbents must maintain said certifications while employed by the City of St. Louis.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience as a Police, Fire, or EMS Dispatcher.

MEDICAL: Upon acceptance of a job offer, candidates will be required to pass an oral swab Drug Screen Test and Physical Examination and successfully complete a Psychological Examination as part of the Medical examination procedure. Police Dispatchers are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests without advance notice as a condition of their employment.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.
CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
