Salary

  • Minimum: $38,714.00
  • Maximum: $64,584.00

Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $37,570.  Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $49,114. Proof of successful completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status must be submitted with the Employment Application.

Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position are responsible for preparing, priming and painting a variety of surfaces such as building interiors/exteriors, bridges, parking lots, traffic markings, signs and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience as a commercial painter including work operating spray-painting machines and compressors or work operating paint equipment on a paint-lining truck; OR completion of a recognized Painter apprenticeship program.   OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application.   Please note type of license, number, class, and expiration date on the Employment Application.

When completing the Employment History Section of the application, please carefully describe your work experience involving the operating of mechanical spray painting equipment, compressors, paint-lining equipment and hand guns. Your experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your Experience and Training evaluation.  Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment on the application.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination.  Incumbents are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests as a condition of their employment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
