  • Minimum: $59,288.00
  • Maximum: $80,730.00

Incumbents who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $59,228 annually. Incumbents with a Class I Stationary Engineer's License issued by the City of St. Louis will start at $64,584 annually.

This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00). The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant.  The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.

Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position operate, maintain and repair stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide utilities or power for buildings and industrial processes.  Work involves shift, weekend and holiday assignments; therefore, candidates must be available for shift work.  A shift differential is paid to full-time employees working evening and night shifts.  For an additional description of this position, please refer to the classification specification for Stationary Engineer at:  https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/personnel/documents/classification-specifications.cfm

Minimum Qualifications

Licenses: Applicants must possess and maintain all of the following while employed by the City of St. Louis: a current Stationary Engineer’s License (Class II Restricted) issued by the City of St. Louis and a valid Missouri driver's license. Copies of licenses must be submitted with the Employment Application. If you apply online, please submit a copy of your Stationary Engineer’s License (Class I or Class II Restricted) and driver's license under separate cover to the Department of Personnel, 1114 Market Street, Room 700, St. Louis, MO 63101, Attention: Aaron Swearngin.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of experience in the operation of high-pressure boilers, chillers in excess of 500 tons, building automation systems, emergency generators or related equipment.

Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination. Incumbents are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests as a condition of their employment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request.  The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation. CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points. 

Some positions may require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment.
