Position Specifications

This is a management position assigned to the Airport Unit within the City Counselor’s Office and is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and directing the work of subordinate attorneys.  Responsibilities include responding to and providing competent, timely, legal advice in response to inquiries from the Director of St. Louis Lambert International Airport and their executive staff; providing counsel on Airport grant assurances, land use, real estate transactions, municipal law, and finance; providing federal aviation and regulatory compliance advice governing the operations of the Airport, which includes counsel on matters under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation and the its Transportation Security Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a school of law approved by the American Bar Association; current membership in the Missouri Bar in good standing or licensure in another state with eligibility for reciprocity in Missouri; plus seven years of progressively responsible legal practice which includes experience with aviation law.

Documentation of License to practice law must be submitted upon request.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.

Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.  A ten-year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
