Compatible New Construction Policy for City Historic Districts
The Preservation Board will consider the Compatible New Construction Policy for City Historic Districts at a public meeting on October 22, 2018.

One of the responsibilities of the Cultural Resources Office and the Preservation Board is design review for proposed construction in City Historic Districts. In the past, new building design emphasized compatibility with the existing historic buildings; in recent years, aspects of new design have been more contemporary, not matching historic designs as much. This trend can enliven historic districts, but also could diminish the ability to experience the districts as they appeared in the past.
The proposed Preservation Board Policy, which will be considered by the Preservation Board at its October 22, 2018 meeting, has two goals:
- Explain the process for review of new construction when the design looks more contemporary; and
- Guide the design of parts of the building meant to be more contemporary.
Public comments regarding the proposed Policy will be accepted
until Friday, October 12, 2018 at 5:00 P.M.
